Dependants and Beneficiaries

Review PSBT policies around Dependants and Beneficiaries.

Child Dependants over the age of 19

At what age is my child no longer eligible for benefits?

Child Dependants fall off coverage at the age of 19.

Can my child over the age of 19 receive benefits?

Yes, your child may receive coverage from 19-24 years of age, on the condition they are enrolled in full-time post-secondary education, and sufficient proof of enrollment is provided.

At what age is my dependent student removed from benefits?

Student Dependants are no longer covered after 25 years of age, even if they are in school full time.

What is sufficient proof of enrollment for Child Dependants over age 19 who are full-time students, and wish to continue benefit coverage?

The following documents are required:

1) A letter from a school administrator. Please ensure the current year of enrollment is visible or this will be deemed ineligible.
2) A document proving admission in post-secondary education for the current year. Examples: Financial statements, transcripts, letter from a school administrator

How often should evidence of school enrollment for over-age dependent child(ren), who wish to continue receiving benefit coverage, be submitted?

We require that you submit proof of full-time enrollment in post-secondary education annually. Again, the documentation provided must indicate the current year the Dependant is enrolled in a post-secondary institution (i.e., 2019-2020 must be visible for the document to be considered acceptable). Please remember that benefits will cease on the Student Dependant's 25th birthday.

Updating Dependants and Beneficiaries

How do I change my current Dependant(s) on my benefit plan?

There are two ways you can do this:

  1. Visit the Dependants page of your account and enter a new dependant or change a current dependant. There is an FAQ section on the page to guide you along in the process.
  2. Alternatively, you can complete the Dependant Change Form to add or remove person(s) on your plan. Only originally signed forms will be accepted as valid—mail or courier documents to the PSBT office

Please note: Your changes will only take effect and appear in your account after being reviewed by PSBT.

How long will it take for my Dependant(s) to be added or removed from my benefits?

Once a request to add or remove a Dependant from your plan is received, PSBT will review the change before the end of the month, and any changes will take effect on the first day of the following month.

How do I check or change my current beneficiary(s) on my benefit plan?
